A Staten Island school with a Zoom class
Alyaa Driving School is on Clove Road in Staten Island. Its page lists a 5-hour class on Zoom at $50. The school says its driving lessons are taught in English, Arabic and Spanish; the page does not say which language the 5-hour class uses, so ask before you book if that matters to you. For classes whose language is stated, see our Spanish-language guide.
Because the class is on Zoom, you can join it from home, wherever you live in the city. The DMV treats a live Zoom class like a classroom one: an instructor teaches it in real time, and your identity is confirmed at enrollment and again during the course.
The BASIC package
The BASIC package costs $225 and bundles four things: the 5-hour Zoom class, a 30-minute lesson, the car for your road test and road test scheduling. Because the class alone costs $50, the other $175 covers the lesson, the car and the scheduling.
For a learner who wants all of those from one school, a package is simpler than buying the pieces separately. For a learner who only needs the class, $50 is the relevant price. Our cost guide lists what other providers charge for the class and for extras.
It also helps to compare like with like. The smallest package at Coreway, at $230, includes the class, a road test appointment, the car and one 45-minute lesson, against Alyaa’s $225 with a 30-minute lesson and scheduling. The two are close in price, so the difference lies in lesson length and in what each school lists. Ask each what is included before you decide.
One point is worth checking in the package. The road test requires a vehicle with valid registration, insurance and inspection, and a licensed driver to accompany you. Ask the school exactly what its road test car arrangement covers. Our road test guide has the full list of what to bring.
What the page leaves open
- The class schedule. No dates or times are given, so ask which dates are open and when the class starts. A 5-hour class that begins at 5:00 PM ends around 10:00 PM, which matters on a school night.
- The language of the 5-hour class. Ask for the language of the class itself, not only of the lessons.
- How the MV-278 is delivered, whether by mail or by pickup, and whether a fee applies.
- The cancellation and rescheduling terms, including whether a payment can move to another date.
Until you have those answers, the DMV’s rules for a live class are your baseline: live instruction, identity checks at enrollment and during the course, a minimum age of 16, and a paper MV-278 that is valid for one year. The original is needed at the road test, and copies are not accepted. Our MV-278 guide explains how the certificate works.
A short phone call or message to the school can settle all four points. Write down the answers and the date you were given them.
Alternatives close to Staten Island
Alyaa sits last in our list because the page leaves open several items our criteria weigh: the schedule, the class language and certificate handling. That says something about the page, not about the school’s lessons.
If you want those answers on the page itself, look at NY 5-Hour Course, which serves Staten Island and publishes its class dates and a flat $40 price. Our provider directory lists all thirteen providers, including NTSI, a Staten Island-based provider of the online course for learners aged 18 and over.

Our verdict
Alyaa suits Staten Island learners who like the idea of one school handling the class, a first lesson and the car for the road test. The $225 BASIC package is the main draw, since it bundles those pieces with road test scheduling. The page does not publish a class schedule, language or certificate delivery, so ask those questions first. Compare the package against buying the pieces separately before you decide.
Best for: Staten Island learners who want the class bundled with a lesson and the road test car
