Where NTSI fits among your options
NTSI offers the online version of the course, not a live class. You work through it on your own time inside the DMV’s 30-day window, with identity checks along the way. It is one of the providers on the DMV’s list of online pre-licensing course providers, and it is based on Staten Island.
Because this is the DMV’s online pilot format, the entry rules come from the DMV rather than from NTSI. You must be 18 or older and hold a valid New York photo learner permit, and applicants for junior licenses (class DJ or MJ) are not eligible. Language and price
NTSI’s course page showed $44.95 when we checked in October 2026. The DMV’s list marks the course as available in Spanish, which is why NTSI appears in our Spanish-language guide. If Spanish is your preferred language, confirm how the language choice works on the course page before you pay.

From registration to the road test
- Registering. You start the 30-day window when you register, so choose a time when you can actually work through the course.
- Finishing. The course is completed online, with the DMV’s identity checks along the way.
- Reporting. NTSI reports your completion to the DMV electronically.
- Waiting. It usually takes 24 to 48 hours to post to your record.
- Booking. You then book your road test online or by phone at 1-518-402-2100.
No paper MV-278 is issued in this format, so there is no certificate to carry to the test. Learners who finish a live class do receive one, and our MV-278 guide explains the difference.
How to compare it
NTSI’s $44.95 buys a different format from the $40 live classes at our Partners. There is no scheduled class date, but also no paper certificate, and the course is closed to drivers under 18. For some adult learners with a photo permit and a busy week, that is the right trade; for others it is not.

Our verdict
NTSI is a straightforward choice among the online providers: a listed price, two languages and a base in Staten Island. It follows the DMV’s online rules, which means 18 or older, a valid photo learner permit, 30 days to finish and no paper certificate. Learners who want a live instructor, or who are under 18, should look at the live Zoom and classroom providers in this ranking instead. For adults who prefer to work through the material alone, it is a reasonable option.
